Internship Title: Youth Development Intern
Program:
The United Way of Delaware County (UWDC) Strengthening Families (SF) Initiative (www.delawarecountyfamilies.org), a collective impact innovation, has grown into a trusting network of caring individuals and organizations; addressing prevention, intervention, and crisis in the same location. Organized under three pillars, Wellness, Stability and Lifelong Learning, over 40 cross-sector partner organizations provide programming, support, and resources. Strengthening Families encourages collaboration, coordination and capacity building among multiple organizations centered around agreed upon strategies and goals.
Position Summary:
Youth Development Interns assist in providing a comfortable, healthy, and safe space for afterschool programming within the Strengthening Families Middle School Community Room on Wednesdays. This unique room offers a variety of games, quiet spaces, activities, and skill-building opportunities. Interns will gain essential hands-on, direct service knowledge through various trainings and work with many students and their families coming through the Strengthening Families Hub. Six to eight hours a week through the school year, interns will connect with students by assisting with program development and mentorship which provides meaningful and measurable impact.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:

Strengthening Families Interns will attend a volunteer training and complete a BCI.

Assist and deliver middle school teen room programming every Wednesday (2:30pm- 6:30pm) and provide another 2-4 hours during the week for program development.

Assist middle school students with academic challenges by identifying relevant and desirable student learning and development outcomes as well as celebrating SEL (social emotional learning) and academic successes.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications: Obtaining a degree in either Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, Special, Arts, or Physical Education, Youth or Childhood Development, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sports & Rec, Public Health, and/or equivalent/related experience with youth and youth development.
Hours: Typical week includes 2:30pm – 6:30pm Every Wednesday; Occasional meetings and events outside of these hours, as well which includes an additional 2-4 hours a week.
Estimated Start Date: October 2022 (TBD on hire date)
Job Location: Position is based in the Willis Education Center and requires the employee to work at
the United Way of Delaware County Strengthening Families office, 74 W William St, Delaware, OH 43015.
